The Angelus
The Angelus is a traditional Catholic prayer recalling the angel Gabriel's message to Mary and the coming of Jesus Christ.
It has traditionally been prayed in the morning, at noon and in the evening, often when church bells are rung, but it may be prayed at any suitable time.
Leader: The angel of the Lord brought God's message to Mary.
Response: And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Leader: I am the servant of the Lord.
Response: Let it happen to me according to your word.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Leader: And the Word became flesh.
Response: And lived among us.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Leader: Pray for us, holy Mother of God.
Response: That we may receive the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour your grace into our hearts, Lord. Through the angel's message we have known that Christ your Son became human. By his suffering and cross, bring us to the glory of his resurrection. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
